Image from a Wedding and Reception on Saturday in the village of Barmby on the Moor, East Yorkshire. Not many places the bride and her family can walk down the middle of the road to church. Cold but very nice day, helping out another photographer, which is always a fairly stress free day.

Another busy year almost gone, so time to wish you all the very best wishes for the year ahead. The last few weeks have been busy trying to complete orders before Christmas (just did it!) - although had two complete albums delivered from the manufacturer on Christmas Eve!, which gave no time to get them delivered to customers, they will leave first thing in the New Year.

Whilst sorting through images from 2011, as normal l came across one that l really like for lots of reasons. The image tells the story of the wedding morning, the bride getting ready with the last minute finishing touches, two of the bridesmaids getting the smallest bridesmaid of the day ready, everyone concentrating on the tasks at hand. Just a lovely storytelling image, hope you like it.

Couple of images from this mornings engagement shoot at Flamborough Head, Nr. Bridlington, East Yorkshire. Lovely story, Natali and Timon live in Germany, they travelled to the UK and yesterday afternoon, Timon proposed to Natali on the top of Flamborough Lighthouse, (she said yes!). Today they had some pictures taken (although not on top of the Lighthouse). As l write this, they are travelling back to Germany. Congratulations to Natali and Timon. (Sorry about the English weather!)

Rebecca and Steven got Married on Saturday 20th August 2011 at the Priory Church, Bridlington, with a Reception at The Spa, Bridlington, East Yorkshire. Rebecca and Steven's Wedding Album was delivered this week, so it was nice to receive an email from them yesterday.

On the 13th June this year, l had the pleasure of covering the Wedding and Reception of Michelle and Carl at Tickton Grange, Nr. Beverley, East Yorkshire. This week l was able to deliver the Wedding Album, Parents Books and Guest Books to Michelle and Carl. It was lovely to get an email from Michelle's Mum and Dad yesterday.

What would you do if you had a fire at home and some of your wedding pictures were destroyed? Well, in the case of a client from 2007, they ring me. Louise and Chris got married on the 18th August 2007 and when they had a house fire recently, they lost some framed pictures from their wedding day. I was able to go into my archives and recover the images and will have them reprinted for them. The image below is one of the lost one's of their daughter Annie at the church alter.

Web Site Update

Updated my main web site over the last few days with some new content. The biggest change has been with the front page which now uses HTML 5 - which basically means that the coding allows for some animation within the page. I have checked it with both Safari and Firefox web browsers and it appears to work fine. The problem may be with Internet Explorer, which as l have previously posted is not a good browser. If anyone has any problems please let me know, better still if you have Internet Explorer, download another one, Firefox is free. Thanks

Skydive!

My daughter, Gemma (sometime trusty assistant at Weddings) is doing a tandem skydive from 10,000 feet on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. As someone who is scared of heights and flying, it will not be easy for her. At least 85,000 people in the UK have MS and it is the most common disabling neurological disorder affecting young adults. MS can be hugely destructive, often characterised by distressing symptoms such as muscle spasms, fatigue, depression and pain.

Weekend off (nearly)!

Wekend off - nearly, cleared this weekend and made sure l had no wedding bookings, so that l could babysit my grandson, so the rest of the gang could go to Glastonbury. Have had regular updates from what appears to be many acres of mud, mud so deep in places that it "sucks" your wellington boots off as you try to walk. A weekend off this week, heading up to three wedding's in seven days next week, so it's nice to be able to catch up. Just finished sorting Amy and Christopher's images from last week and as always spotted one that initially l did not notice. Weekend Wedding

Few images from yesterday's Wedding in East Yorkshire. Another weekend when l got the opportunity to second shoot. This has been a very worthwhile as my own wedding's start next week, with a busy Friday and Saturday coming up. Yesterday's wedding was the first time l left my very large equipment bag in the car and used a small shoulder bag, which contained one flashgun and memory cards. I had two camera's with a different lens on each over each shoulder. This was a lot easier to manage, everything l needed was always with me. Certainly had more freedom and better mobility without having to carry the very large bag around all the time or remember whereabouts l had left it!

Just finished the album design for Sally and Alexander's wedding at the beginning of March, up in Durham. The album has now gone off to be printed. All my albums are printed in Italy by a company called Graphi Studio, it is always worth a look on the company's web site to have a look at the products. Just a quick update regarding activities in the photographic world! Away this weekend at the Wedding and Reception of Sally and Alexander at Lumley Castle, Chester-le-Street, Durham. Not a location l am familiar with, so heading off early to have a good look round before the festivities begin. Will post some images from the wedding early next week.

Been a busy week catching up and finishing off some wedding albums from last year! I have never taken part in a Wedding Fayre as an exhibitor, so it has been on my mind to actually do one to see what they are all about. But, surprise, surprise, actually getting into one is far harder than l anticipated. It's really a case of waiting to see if some other photographer decides not to do one or they leave the profession all together. So, l have decided that having never done one, l cannot see the point of trying to do one, unless someone dies!

I don't do many weddings in my home town, l prefer to travel around. It is surprising the number of wedding photographers in one small town, with more seeming to start every month. Whether this is a reflection of the "credit crunch" and anyone with a camera has decided to become a Wedding Photographer, l don't know. Perhaps when they stop fighting over places at Wedding Fayres, realise that Wedding Photography is actually hard work, you need more than one camera and lens, you have to get it right first time and the many hours spent in front of a computer, maybe they will decide it's not for them.

Taken the plunge, so to speak - and started a Facebook page. To be honest l am not really sure what l am doing with it, but hopefully over the coming weeks l will be able to work it all out (must be my age). I now have a Facebook link on the left hand site which will take you direct to my Facebook page. Been a little busy over the last few weeks, eventually gave the web site a spring clean with some new graphics. Any comments or problems with the site, please let me know. I will give my normal warning, if you are still using any version of Internet Explorer, please use something else, Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc. which are all free downloads. They are much better web browser's - Internet Explorer is so old and full of problems that l am surprised any web site works on it.

Bit of a panic at home this morning, when reports of the earth quake in Christchurch, New Zealand came on the news. My son Thomas, arrived in Christchurch about four days ago on the latest leg of his backpacking world tour (he should have T-Shirts made). Anyway, to cut a long story short, after a few telephone calls, some visits to Facebook, we discovered that he had left Christchurch yesterday and is safe and well - somewhere in New Zealand, but thankfully not in Christchurch. I am not a user of Facebook, but it was amazing to discover that he had been able to update his profile, to let family and friends know he was safe and well, even though the mobile network was down.

First wedding of the year this weekend, so will post some images early next week.

It's almost gone, what happened, can't have slept through it all, but it does make the summer that much closer.

Interesting article in the Sunday Times yesterday, for those who don't know, the artist David Hockney, lives in the Bridlington. The headline for the article was "The Beast of Bridlington". The reporter called Bridlington "a decayed, shabby, seaside resort". Hockney described it as a "time warp", having stopped dead somewhere around 1955. He goes on to say that East Yorkshire comes up in surveys as the worst place to live in Britain, he likes that, because it keeps people away!

Whilst l probably would not disagree with some of the comments made, it is shabby, but l suppose compared to his home in California, it is.

But more interesting was his work with iPhones and iPads, iPhones using the camera and iPads using it's applications for drawing, some really good work. At 73 years old he is pushing the boundaries in art, which is really great. I was hoping to put a link in to the article, but it looks as if the Sunday Times now charges for it's on-line content.

Strange week, as any week in January can be, regular readers will remember the problems with a new computer screen l got almost a year ago now. Anyway, the screen started to develop some strange greyish "smudges" in the top corners. Initially thought it was my eyesight, but when l tried to retouch a photograph and decided it was not the photograph, but the screen, l realised my eyes were fine. I immediately got in touch with Apple and to cut a long story short, a new screen has been fitted. Whilst it is annoying that a screen should develop such a fault in the first place, the Customer Service from Apple was first class. Within three days of initially reporting the fault, a new screen was ordered and fitted, no arguments, no passing the buck to someone else, just very good customer service. Shame some UK companies don't offer the same level of courtesy and service.

A New Year

A New Year is upon us, just recovered from a fairly hectic schedule for Weddings over the Christmas period and had chance to have some time to catch up a bit and to take my trusty companion for a few long walks (hence the photo taken on a iphone).

No New Year's resolutions, but maybe one wish, Church's and Church Warden's inparticular please "chill out". At a wedding over the Christmas period, l had the misfortune to come across two female church wardens, who must have been related to Rottweiller's!. Not only was church photography completely banned during the ceremony, any photography inside the church after the ceremony was time limited. By time limited, l mean 10 minutes, with a tap on the shoulder after 5, to remind me l had 5 minutes left. Apparently, they had home's to go to and did not want to be hanging around. The vicar was "visiting" and was powerless to bring some common sense to proceedings. he even cut a hymn from the ceremony because the bride was a bit late! The Rottweiller's were even hoovering the church as the quest's arrived!

So come on folks, what happened to all the goodwill towards men, photographer's and bride and groom's!

Bit of a mad week - very heavy snow fall effected the coast at the beginning of the week with matching freezing temperatures, minus 12, one morning when l took my trusty companion out. Must admit l have suffered this week with the "the weather conditions mean deliveries have been delayed", well, that was the British excuse. A delivery from Italy left on the 17th and arrived with me on the 22nd and was delivered to the customer today, yet we cannot seem to deliver something from about 60 miles north of here! Moan over, busy week in between Christmas and the New Year with three wedding's, so a blog update may not make it till 2011!. So best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, have a great time.

Last September, l covered Caroline and Joe's Wedding at Sledmere House, Sledmere, East Yorkshire, it really was a great day. Having recently delivered the finished album, it was nice to get a card from Caroline and Joe yesterday.

Weekend off, so good chance to catch up and take some time out from looking at a computer screen! The below image was taken this afternoon on the North Beach at Bridlington, East Yorkshire, although my trusty companion was nowhere to be seen, actually miles away in the sea, as normal. Back to normal next weekend with a couple of weddings, as winter approaches, weddings take on different challenges. Not least of these is the weather and light, but the light during the winter months can be exceptional and the challenges are well worth it (although the cold may not be!). Looking forward to the winter months ahead.

Took a couple of day's off, following the wedding at the weekend and visited the North Yorkshire Moors. Stunning part of the country and a must to visit, if you are ever in the area. Whilst in North Yorkshire, visited Grosmont, which has one of the Railway Stations on the Whitby to Pickering line, it's like stepping back in time to see the Railway Station, complete with steam trains! Well worth a visit.

iPhone 4

Eventually got chance to try the iPhone 4 camera this afternoon, below are a couple of images, which other than putting a border on and some sharpening in Photoshop, they are as they came out the phone.
Both shots taken on the North Bay at Bridlington. Whilst l would not use the phone on a wedding! - as a point and shoot, to carry about in my pocket when walking the dog or generally out and about it seems reasonable. The image quality is not something l would rave about, but having said that, the images have a certain quality that l like. There is no way to control any of the functions, speed, aperture etc, it's basically just a point and shoot, then hope for the best. The phone has a front and rear facing lens, which would come in handy for self portraits!. I find it difficult to hold, because it's so small, l would certainly recommend a steady hand to avoid any camera shake. To sum up, it does what it says on the tin - but don't expect anything more than that.

Few images from a Wedding today at Sewerby Hall, Nr. Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire. I was helping out a fellow photographer, which always gives me a little more scope than usual to wander around and help myself to images. Being a "second shooter", you don't have the stress associated with being the main photographer, you can blend into the background a lot easier, generally people just don't notice you as much. I also find it good just to watch people, watch the main photographer and learn more about what happen's at a wedding. These opportunities don't come round that often, because l am usually busy with my own wedding's - so it is an opportunity l tend to grab when it comes round. Apart from the glorious weather, it's been a good week.

I mentioned in an earlier post that my son, Thomas has finished University, he got his results yesterday...... a First Class Honours Degree in Creative Music and Sound Technology, very well done Tom!

My continuing broadband issues seem to have eventually been resolved (finger's crossed) - l know BT tend to get a fair share of abuse, but the engineer who called yesterday was great, even more so because it was not my set up that was causing the problems. So, fingers crossed it will run properly now.

Also managed to get my hands on an iPhone 4, which arrived yesterday. Having struggled with a very poor Sony Ericsson for a couple of years, the new phone is a breath of fresh air. The operating system of the iPhone is really first class, why l put up with the Sony Ericsson for so long l dont know. Will report back when l have had chance to have a proper play, interested to use the camera and see what sort of results l get. But, first impression's are very good.
